What is a Regional Safe Schools Program?
A Regional Safe Schools program is an alternative school placement for disruptive youth in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. These youth are expelled, eligible for expulsion, or have been suspended from school multiple times. Students are placed in the program where acceptance of and gains toward self-responsibility determine his or her transfer back to the sending school.
What does it do?
Our mission is to provide a positive learning environment which will improve students' self-esteem and their behavioral and educational performance so they may successfully return to their home school. The teaching staff provides opportunities for growth through individualized teaching and behavior programs that emphasize the positive traits of each child while providing direction and feedback in areas that need improvement.
How is a student placed?
Only the home school principal can refer a student to the TriStar Academy. Failure by a student to work towards success with the program staff will result in that student being sent back to the sending school. All student actions recorded at the safe schools program are part of the student's permanent record. Most safe school students complete a school year with TriStar and then successfully return to their home school.
